View from the fields
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Showers were often avoided by hardened festival-goers
With the sun shining and the Drummers of Burundi providing a chilled vibe in the background, Festival-generation went out and about amongst the mellow folk of the Green Futures field to find out to what had defined Glastonbury for them: the memory in six months time that says "that was Glastonbury '99"
Ray, from London, working in welfare, was at the second ever Glasto
Most annoying thing about the festival: theft - goes against the whole philosophy of the festival and is much worse this year
Freakiest, surrealist, most bizarre thing seen or done: getting a backstage pass and seeing the crowd from the otherside for the first time - mindboggling
Best moment: working in lost property and being asked by a distraught guy if anyone had handed in his rucksack, tent and sleeping bag which he had lost. Amazingly, it had been handed in, with nothing stolen and the guy walked away with a look of pure joy on his face
Malcolm, from Australia, first came to Glasto in 1998.
Most annoying: people leaving rubbish everywhere, personal irresponsibility
Freakiest: Icarus flying on Friday night while tripping head off
Best: sunrise above stone circle on Sunday morning - the sun peeks over the horizon and everyone cheers
Andy, from Northampton, first Glasto: 1992
Most annoying: crowds at intersections
Freakiest: the 'big birds' walking around
Best: Gomez live
Jill, from Loughborough, first Glasto: 1987
Most annoying: revolting toilets
Freakiest: bumping into friends from uni that didn't know would be here
Best: coming back for first time in ten years
Marcus, from Somerset, first Glasto: 1994
Most annoying: nothing! (but some worries about CJD from mud)
Freakiest: the glass boat with the sound system
Best: great atmosphere - friendlier than last year
Adrian, from Dorset, first Glasto: 1997
Most annoying: sound systems of more than 1k not allowed at night
Freakiest: people walking around wearing telephone boxes
Best: the completely fucked up weirdo had long conversation with on Saturday night
Tim, from London, first Glasto: 1994
Most annoying: having to work
Freakiest: being asked to wear a dress at work
Best: don't know yet! (this was at 4pm on Sunday...)
Alan and Katrina, from london, first Glasto 1978
Most annoying: mobile phones
Freakiest; the naked protest, and the Green Anarchists sales pitch: "buy it...or don't buy it"
Best: sitting around chatting, meeting the person they were trying to find, a man who heckled during the two minute silence for Jean Eavis getting booed out of the Crone's Cafe
Roger and Valerie, from Norfolk, 198'something
Most annoying: the disabled entrance being very hard to find, then having trouble finding a spot to camp in because of people putting fences around their tents
Freakiest: amount of dance music at the festival now, out of place
Best: woolly mammoth made out of leylandii
